Japanese sub-culture :LOLITA

Recently, I'm doing a reseah on Japanese sub-culture: LOLITA, which could be regarded as cute culture. However, LOLITA also cannot be accepted by the whole public like "Yakuza" and "Bosazoku" in Japan. As Japan's global pop-cultural influence began to rise in the 1990s with the spread of Japanese animation, comic books and video games, Japanese youth cultures in the form of subcultural expressions began to capture international attention. Fashion, or more precisely a visual expression of one's identity, has become a dominant vehicle of self-expression and activity for many young people in Japan. One of the most popular objects of both media and scholarly analyses outside Japan has been the youth culture known as Lolita, which is characterised by dressing in Victorian and Rococo-inspired fashions and affecting a 'princess-like' demeanour. This subcultural style is a fashion-based youth culture of young women who draw their aesthetics from the stage performances of bands and the fantasy worlds of anime, manga and dolls. Similar to other subcultural practices manifested in other societies, Lolita performance is also anchored in specific urban spaces and particular moments in the course of participants' lives.

However, in my opinion, I do not reject them. Lolita. To be honest, I’m pretty like their dressing style. As an amateur painter, I like to take their dress as my painting materials. For me, I don’t care so much about the sense of culture in Lolita, and I prefer to think about some art elements of Lolita. Furthermore, the one more thing also attracts me a lot is their thoughts about society and themselves. Through the whole reading, we can inform a lot of Lolita girls feel so appreciate about this period in their life after they graduated from Lolita. For sure, they suffered a lot of other people’s laugh and against, but their principle that follows their own heart moves me a lot. When they thought back about this period, they felt so proud of themselves and said Lolita bring friends and confidence to them. Although their behaviors have some bad influence to Japanese society, I’ m so appreciate about their faith to themselves. They just do what they want, and just have fun with some friends who have the same hobby, they just do the things which follow their heart and most of us cannot do. To be honest, all of us have some ridiculous thoughts or dreams in our mind, and you may think it is ridiculous by yourself and never think about how to make it happen. Through the readings, we can find most of Lolita girls are initial common and even unimpressive in their social public, they just want to use their own way to make more friends and get attracts from others(目につく) to build their confidence, and they did it. In my opinion, the reason why we cannot accept Lolita style and regard them as social-against is that we think they are different from us. However, is it can be said difference is bad? I don’t think so. It is so regretful that we never thought what person we could be and just think about what person we should be. It is a big difference. Lolita believe they can be what they want and they just do it and enjoy it, it is enough. They know they won’t realize how beautiful their thoughts are if they never step forward.
If you are interested in LOLITA, I hope you can go to watch this movie "Kamikaze Girls"
